These Bolson tortoise hatchlings were born in captivity. Beginning in 2023 Bolson tortoises are being released on Turner ranches to establish a new free-ranging Bolson tortoise population. This is the first time they'll be in the wild in New Mexico since they were extirpated thousands of years ago.
