Herpetologist Dr. Harry Greene, Professor Emeritus at Cornell University, holds fossilized eggs next to a fossilized shell of the extinct Gopherus hexagonatus tortoise species that was native to North America. This species went extinct toward the end of the Pleistocene (ice age).
