North Carolina Na tional Wildlife Refuges Reopen; Public is Welcome!

Manteo - After being closed since October 1 due to a federal government lapse in appropriations, national wildlife refuges are now open for business! In North Carolina, this includes Alligator River, Pea Island, Mackay Island, Currituck, Pocosin Lakes, Roanoke River, Mattamuskeet, Cedar Island, Swanquarter, and Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuges. Mike Bryant, Project Leader for six of the North Carolina refuges, said, "We hope the American public will come on out and enjoy the Fall recreational opportunities on these federal lands. Our refuge employees will make every effort to make up for lost time in managing these lands for the benefit of the American public. Whether you enjoy hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, photography, or other wildlife-related pursuits, we're happy to invite you back to refuges. And, we're especially happy the shutdown has ended before Wings Over Water begins on October 22."
