Fishing Opportunities

The refuge is opening for fishing from dawn to dusk. Overnight parking, camping and fires are not allowed on the refuge.

Three areas are open for fishing on the Refuge. Maps of each are located in the Fishing Brochure:

Headquarters Fishing Unit - north bank of the Blitzen River to the bridge on the Boat Landing Road.

  • Season: August 1 - September 15
  • Species: Non-native Carp
  • Limits: State Limits
  • Artificial flies and lures only
  • Trout are catch and release only
  • Boats are not permitted

Krumbo Reservoir located approximately 1/2 way down the Blitzen Valley.

  • Season: Year Round
  • Species: Rainbow Trout and largemouth bass
  • Limits: State Limits
  • Use of bait is allowed
  • Ice fishing and any physical access on to any ice formation is not permitted
  • Non-motorized or electric boats are allowed, except when ice is present at the boat launch
  • Drive-in access to the reservoir may be closed when road conditions are hazardous

The South Fishing Loop - mainstem of the Blitzen River, East Canal, and tributaries upstream of Page Dam and including Bridge Creek

  • Season: Year-round - Trout are catch and release certain times of the year (see ODFW Sport Fishing Regulations)
  • Species: Redband Trout
  • Fishing is not permitted within 200 feet upstream or downstream of fish passage ways
  • Drive-in access on East Canal Road may be closed when road conditions are hazardous
