First Nectar Party a beautiful Success

On January 12, Sheila Josephowitz presented her new storytelling adventure for children for the first time.  This new attraction for the public will be presented four times in the next month, and we hope to expand it in the future.  The Nectar Party for four to six year olds began with the children guessing the name of “Fuzzy Caterpillar,” followed by Sheila reading and acting out three butterfly books.  After the reading, the children made butterfly masks that they wore when they went out to the Visitor Center Pavilion to drink their butterfly nectar (a juice drink) and Anne Swanson showed the children a Tupperware container full of a caterpillar, larvae, and a Monarch butterfly that had just emerged from chryalsis.  Next month, Sheila plans on presenting a children’s reading and activity session about spiders.  Sheila Josephowitz is a volunteer at Arthur R Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge.  Anne Swanson is a volunteer naturalist with a focus on butterflies at the Refuge.
