USFWS |
Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery (LNFH) is located in Chelan County along the beautiful Icicle Creek in central Washington. The Leavenworth NFH is one of three hatcheries (Leavenworth, Entiat and Winthrop) and the Mid-Columbia Fisheries Resource Office that comprise the Leavenworth Fisheries Complex. The Complex hatchery facilities were constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation as fish mitigation facilities for the construction of Grand Coulee Dam.
The 170 acre site lies 2 miles south of the town of Leavenworth, Washington on Icicle Road. The Leavenworth NFH is open to visitors year-round. Visitors can enjoy a guided (call in advance) or a self-guided tour throughout the facility and grounds. This hatchery is currently raising spring Chinook salmon. Part of the year, the facility is utilized by the Yakama Nation to rear coho salmon. |
Leavenworth NFH is well known for its scenic landscape and recreational and educational programs. Visitors can enjoy such outdoor activities as viewing wildlife, walking on the Icicle Creek Nature Trail, environmental education activities, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and more. Leavenworth NFH is the home of the annual award winning Wenatchee River Salmon Festival held each September. This event and many of our outdoor education programs would not be possible without the support of our Partners.
