Subject:  Guidelines for Importing Shellfish, Fish and Fishery Products

Background:  The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service regulates the trade of shellfish, fish, and fishery products under the Nation’s wildlife laws. The Service, however, has exempted imports and exports of certain shellfish and fishery products from port, declaration, and clearance requirements. Confusion about these exemptions has prompted the Service to develop factsheets to assist the trade in complying with Service import/export requirements.

Action:  The Service urges the trade community to review the new factsheet explaining requirements for importing and exporting shellfish, fish, and fishery products located in the “Importer/Exporters” section of the Office of Law Enforcement website. A factsheet reviewing the requirements for importing salmonids is also available.
