New England Fishery Resources Restoration Act of 1990
New England Fishery Resources Restoration Act of 1990 -- (Section 111 of P.L 101-593; 104
Stat. 2960, 16 U.S.C. 777e-1, enacted November 16, 1990) The purposes of this Act are to:
ensure timely and effective implementation of restoration plans and programs for Atlantic
salmon and other fishery resources in New England river systems, require a study of fish passage
impediments and requirements on New England rivers and streams, and require an inventory of
fish and wildlife habitat and other natural areas of New England river basins.
Responsibilities assigned to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are to:
- formulate, establish, revise, and implement cooperative programs to restore and maintain
nationally significant interjurisdictional fishery resources in New England river systems, and
submit annual reports to Congress on activities undertaken and accomplishments achieved,
including a prognosis for the restoration of stocks and species involved;
- conduct a study to identify impediments to upstream and downstream passage of fish in
New England rivers and streams due to non-FERC licensed dams or other human-caused
obstructions and to identify actions needed to alleviate the impediments, and submit a report
to Congress by November 16, 1993; and
- inventory the natural resource values of New England river basins and identify fish and
wildlife habitat in need of protection or public access, identify appropriate public or private
protection or access measures, and report the findings, conclusions and recommendations to
Congress by November 16, 1992.
