Public Law 97-396 (96 Stat. 2006), approved December 31, 1982, amended section 12 of the Act to remove the restriction that the Service conduct the study with funds appropriated under the Act, as no funds had been appropriated. It also amended the Act to extend the deadline for completion to December 31, 1984.
Public Law 99-375 (100 Stat. 803), approved August 7, 1986, authorized appropriations Fiscal Years 1986, 1987 and 1988 at $5 million.
Public Law 100-653 (102 Stat. 3825), approved November 14, 1988, extended the authorization of appropriations through Fiscal Year 1990 and amended the Act to require the Service to monitor and assess migratory nongame birds, determine the effects of environmental changes and human activities, identify those likely to be candidates for endangered species listing, identify appropriate actions, and report to Congress one year from enactment. It also requires the Service to report at 5 year intervals on actions taken.
Public Law 101-233, signed into law on December 13, 1989 (103 Stat. 1977) amended the Act to require the Service to identify lands and waters in the United States and other nations in the Western Hemisphere whose protection, management, or acquisition will foster the conservation of migratory nongame birds.
Section 106 of P.L. 101-593, signed November 16, 1990 (104 Stat. 2955) reauthorized appropriations for the Nongame Act through Fiscal Year 1992.
Section 301 of P.L. 102-440, signed on October 23, 1992 (106 Stat. 2234) reauthorized appropriations for the Nongame Act, without amendment, through Fiscal Year 1997 (September 30, 1997).
