Recreational Opportunities

Waterfowl Production Areas are popular places to hunt, fish, and trap furbearers. Limited interpretive facilities are available at the Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge headquarters for non-consumptive users.
Hunting, trapping and fishing are permitted on Waterfowl Production Areas in compliance with State laws. Check with the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks for details regarding hunting licenses, season dates, bag limits, etc.
Foot travel is permitted, but use of motorcycles, jeeps, snowmobiles, and other motorized traffic is prohibited in order to protect wildlife habitat. Camping is not permitted, but adequate facilities can be found in many of the State Parks throughout the District.
