Lacreek National Wildlife Refuge Migration Update
December 28, 2010

Happy Holidays!  Most ducks have moved on with the exception of mallards and the occasional common goldeneye.  Still there are numerous mallards and geese in the area, but the storm did close up most of the water on the refuge and very little remains open.  There are plenty of eagles and deer around, along with the occasional coyote.

The late season Bennett County Canada goose season is January 8th-16th.  Please remember there are no retrieval zones around the refuge, so if you can’t retrieve it please do not shoot it.

Last waterfowl survey results:

trumpeter swan –       41
Canada goose-    19,133
mallard-                 4443
C. goldeneye-           13

If you are planning a trip, feel free to contact Headquarters (605-685-6508) during normal business hours of 7 AM to 3:30 PM MST Monday through Friday excluding Holidays to check on road conditions.
