Who We Are
The high density of wetlands and large tracts of grassland within the District attract numerous grassland and wetland nesting migratory birds. In the central part of the District, breeding waterfowl densities often exceed 100 pairs per square mile. Grassland management on Waterfowl Production Areas is done mostly through cooperative grazing agreements, haying agreements or prescribed burning. The focus of management operations is keeping the grassland resources in good condition for ground nesting birds with emphasis on waterfowl. Waterfowl Production Areas are open to hunting, fishing and trapping. These areas also provide opportunities for wildlife viewing, photography and environmental education. Kulm Wetland Management District is a proud part of the National Wildlife Refuge System. In 2003, the National Wildlife Refuge System reacheded its 100th birthday.
