July 31, 2006 - Crews extinguish small wildfire on Sheepy Ridge

A small wildfire was quickly extinguished on the Lower Klamath NWR side of Sheepy Ridge. The ridge, which runs north south and separates Tule Lake and Lower Klamath refuges, surges to over 5000 feet and is thick with volatile grasses and brush. The fire was started when a tracer round being fired from an individual target shooting entered a patch of brush. The refuge fire engine stationed at refuge headquarters on Tule Lake refuge responded with other refuge fire and law enforcement personnel. The blaze was contained and brought under control within an hour.
