2008 SPRING LEASELAND BURNING. Refuge firefighters are making preparations to begin treating approximately 17,000 acres of stubble fields with prescribed fire at Tule Lake and Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuges.
Burning started April 2nd and will continue through May as necessary conditions permit. Refuge Fire Managers coordinate daily with Siskiyou County Air Pollution Control District to comply with smoke management regulations. Nearby residents and refuge visitors should expect smoke in the vicinity of any prescribed fire activity and drivers should heed extra attention while traveling through or adjacent to burn area.
Refuge employees will be lighting on Lower Klamath Refuge this week in Area K and on the Co-op Fields. No ignitions are planned for the weekend.
