Redhead Duck

Spring and fall are the best times to visit Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge to view migrating waterfowl, shorebirds and song birds.
Upwards of 85,000 Canada geese can been seen at the refuge in November & December during peak fall migration.
Several thousand ducks migrating through the central flyway also use the refuge as a source of food and a place to rest during migration. Types of ducks include dabbling ducks and diving ducks. Examples of dabbling ducks include the mallard and northern pintail species. Redhead and lesser scaup are types of diving ducks typically seen on the refuge.
The wetland area adjacent to the refuge headquarters is one of the best places to view migrating birds.
