About Us

James Campbell NWR is part of the O‘ahu National Wildlife Refuge Complex and was established for the conservation of four of the six species of endangered Hawaiian waterbirds. Under recently approved legislation for the expansion of the refuge boundary, the purposes of the refuge now also include conservation of threatened honu (green turtles), ‘īlio nolo i ka uaua endangered (Hawaiian monk seals), and seabirds.
