Executive Order

On July 1, 2013, President Obama issued an Executive Order to enhance coordination of U.S. Government efforts to combat wildlife trafficking and assist foreign governments with capacity building. The Executive Order calls on the Secretary of the Interior, in consultation with the Secretary of State and the Attorney General, to establish an eight-member Council with representation from the private sector, former government officials, non-governmental organizations, and other experts on wildlife trade.

The Council serves as an advisory body to a Presidential Task Force consisting of senior-level representatives from across the federal government. The Council provides advice and recommendations to the Task Force on a multi-pronged approach to wildlife trafficking, including anti-poaching activities, law enforcement efforts and consumer demand reduction.

   Public Meeting of the Advisory Council on    Wildlife Trafficking Scheduled for April 23, 2015

The Advisory Council on Wildlife Trafficking has announced its next meeting for Thursday, April 23, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern Time. The meeting will be held at the U.S. Department of the Interior, South Interior Building Auditorium, 1951 Constitution Avenue NW., Washington, DC 20240. To attend the meeting in person, you must register by close of business on April 15, 2015. For more information on participating in the meeting, or submitting questions or comments, please refer to the Federal Register notice.

The Council will focus the April 23 meeting on summarizing several high level international wildlife summits, discussing the implementation plan and actions the Task Force has taken recently to further the National Strategy Combatting Wildlife Trafficking, and address the rhino poaching crisis.
