Comprehensive Conservation Plan
The Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge Complex has initiated a planning process called Comprehensive Conservation Planning (CCP) to review and plan for long term management of wildlife, habitat, and public use activities.
For more information about the CCP process, visit the Pacific Southwest Region Refuge Planning website. Public InvolvementIn 2007, interested individuals, agencies, tribes, organizations, and other stakeholders were invited by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to express their concerns and share their visions for the Refuge. In February 2009, the CCP team completed the Draft Comprehensive Conservation Plan and Environmental Assessment (CCP/EA) for Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge Complex, which includes draft management alternatives for the Complex. On March 23, 2009, the public comment period closed for Draft CCP/EA. The CCP/EA is scheduled to be finalized in the summer of 2009. Humboldt Bay NWR Complex Draft CCP/EA (3.56MB PDF)

As we conduct the CCP process, we are providing the opportunity to look at our wildlife and habitat management and public programs from fresh perspectives. The original purposes of the Refuges will remain unchanged from when the areas were set aside to protect habitat for wildlife and, in some locations, to provide for wildlife dependent recreation consistent with wildlife needs. However, we have a chance to review each of our management programs.
