Who is FOHR?
The Friends of the Heinz Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, Inc. (FOHR
Tinicum) was founded in 1997 by concerned local citizens interested in
providing assistance to both the Refuge and the National Wildlife Refuge
System. FOHR has an agreement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
to work closely with the Refuge and to help achieve its missions.
FOHR Tinicum is incorporated in Pennsylvania as a non-profit corporation
and is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. All donations
and dues to FOHR are tax deductable on Federal Income Tax returns.
What FOHR Does
Sponsors a Photo Group
FOHR Tinicum's Photo Group assists the Refuge in documenting
special events and everyday occurances on the Refuge, whether it is an
oil spill, or a great blue heron in flight. With their specialized
equipment and professional skills, they have helped the Refuge develop
a slide show, and have contributed to exhibits at the Cusano Environmental
Education Center.
Supports a Trail Maintenance Crew
Each month, a dedicated team of "Friends" works to improve and maintain
the Refuge's many recreational trails.
Develops Educational Materials
Drawing on many of the talented naturalists in the group, FOHR
produces educational materials to support Refuge missions.
Operates a Gift Shop to Benefit the Refuge

FOHR operates Tinicum Treasures, a gift shop featuring t-shirts, books
on birds and local wildlife, as well as a large selection of photographs,
cards, prints, carvings, and original watercolors by local artists. All proceeds from the gift shop finance educational, interpretive, and
wildlife-oriented recreation projects on the Refuge that are not fully
funded by the federal government.
Contributes Funds, Goods, and Services
FOHR Tinicum works with local businesses and individuals to create
support for the Refuge's educational, interpretive, and recreational projects
and facilities.
