Our Educational Mission
The mission of Grays Harbor NWR education program is to work collaboratively with local schools, the community and other educational groups to teach the value of our local ecosystems to students, both young and old.

Request an education guide full of fun and educational activities to implement into your curriculum throughout the year.

Teacher Training
The Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge Education Program will be hosting a Teacher Training Workshop together with ESD 113! Teachers throughout Grays Harbor County will have the opportunity to acquire useful educational material about the amazing resources available through Grays Harbor NWR while earning four clock hours through ESD113. You will learn the importance of the various habits, local wildlfe, and much celebrated shorebird migration.

Location: Hoquiam High School, 501 W. Emerson, Hoquiam, WA

Dates: January 30 and February 7, 2008

Time: 12:30pm to 4:30pm

Fill out the Teacher Training Workshop Registration Form and fax or mail it to Kelly McDermott or Daniel Stevens, the GHNWR Education Coordinators. Space is limited to 12 teachers per workshop, so sign up as soon as possible!

Classroom Visits
Invite Grays Harbor NWR staff into your classroom to engage students in interactive learning activities about local habitat, shorebirds, migration and more!

Field Trips
Visit the Refuge and extend your students' learning process beyond conventional classroom limits. Complete a field study about shorebirds and a variety of other topics.

Shorebird Festival Poster Contest
Another way to get your students involved is the Shorebird Festival Poster Contest. This is a great opportunity for kids to learn about shorebirds and their connection to our local ecosystem. The poster contest is open to students in grades 1-6. The Shorebird Festival takes place the last weekend in April.
