Meet the People...

Manager
Larry Marchant has been the Hatchery Manager since August of 2003. He has worked within the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Hatchery Program since 1979, which included assignments in Regions 1, 3 and 6. His previous experience involves propagation of steelhead trout, rainbow trout, spring and fall chinook, cutthroat trout and lake trout. Larry obtained his B.S. degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Management from the University of Idaho in 1978.

Assistant Manager
Mark Ahrens is the Assistant Manager of the Spring Creek NFH. Mark started with the USFWS as an intern in 1995 while attending the University of Washington. His internship assignments included Dworshak NFH in Idaho and the Mid-Columbia Fishery Resource Office in Leavenworth, WA. Mark graduated in 1997 with a B.S. in Fisheries Biology and a minor in American Indian Studies. He has worked at the Warm Springs NFH in Oregon and Winthrop NFH in Washington prior to coming to Spring Creek in January 2003.

Fish Culture
Four Fish Culturists: Scott Zirjacks, Mark Doulos, Chris Hankin and Casey Risley (Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) student) are responsible for collecting eggs from the returning adult salmon, care and inventory of the eggs, and the care and feeding of the 15 million fingerlings before release.

Maintenance
Two maintenance staff - Lead Maintenance, John Meduna and Maintenance Assistant, Ron Armstrong, operate and maintain the biological filter system and water circulation through the reuse system as well as all other station maintenance.

Program Assistant
Debbie Hogberg is the stations Program Assistant. Debbie tracks the station budget, pays the bills, does payroll and personnel actions, and all the other administrative tasks.

Fishery Biologist
The Staff Biologist is responsible for evaluations, data collection and coordinates special projects. This position is currently vacant.

Education
The station also has an active Information and Education program under the direction of Cheri Anderson and Jennifer Rowlen. Cheri came to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in October 1998 after spending nearly eight years working as an Interpretive Park Ranger for the National Park Service. Cheri has a B.A. in Education for Biology and Reading and a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from the University of Montana.
