What is the Mentoring Team?

FWS staff doing an introduction to kick off a mentoring session

In 1997, the Division of Refuges began sponsoring Mentoring Teams to help refuge staff and community partners build a solid foundation for developing a working relationship. Mentoring Teams tailor an on-site program designed to help citizens forming a new Refuge Support Group or to nurture and advise groups beyond the earliest stage of forming. Mentors are refuge managers, nonprofit managers, and experienced members of Refuge Support Groups. Usually a Refuge Manager and a Refuge Support Group member make up a Mentor Team. These teams assist new and existing groups by providing advice and counceling because they believe in the importance of and need for Refuge Support Groups and the value that they bring to the refuge and surrounding community.
