Summary & History |
| In addition to its already approved uses (click on Drug-use Guidance/Approved Drugs button for details), oxytetracycline (OTC) has long been used in feed to control mortality caused by a variety of bacterial diseases in a broad variety of fish species. The primary goal of field studies conducted under INAD #9332 is to generate additional OTC-medicated feed efficacy data which can be used to expand existing OTC label claims. Under this INAD, Phibro Animal Health (Fairfield, NJ) is the only authorized supplier of OTC to all Investigators. Five treatment options are allowed, and disposition of investigational animals (including withdrawal times) vary with treatment regimen. The treatment regimen most frequently used by Investigators is to administer OTC in feed at 2.5 - 3.75 g active drug/100 lbs fish/day for 10 consecutive days. The withdrawal period of treated fish reared or held in water > 9C and between 4 - 9C is 21 and 50 days, respectively. Other available treatment options are described in the protocol. |
