Summary & History |
| In addition to its already approved uses (click on Drug-use Guidance/Approved Drugs button for details), oxytetracycline (OTC) has long been used as an immersion therapy to control mortality in salmonids and other fishes (e.g., sturgeons, pikes, bass and sunfishes, and perches) diagnosed with a variety of bacterial diseases. The primary goal of field studies conducted under INAD #9033 (immersion therapy) is to generate data to help demonstrate the effectiveness of OTC immersion therapy to control mortality caused by a variety of bacterial diseases in a broad variety of cultured fish species. Under this INAD, Pfizer, Inc. (Lee’s Summit, MO), is the sole supplier of OTC to all Investigators. Although four immersion treatment options are allowed, the standard dosage recommended in the Protocol is to treat fish with a single 1-h static bath treatment at 20 mg/L active drug. Disposition of investigational animals (including withdrawal times) is dependent upon the treatment option used. |
