Project Description:

This project had been identified in the recovery plan for arctic grayling and was a high priority for the City of North Pole, Friends of Chena-Badger Slough, and the North Pole Soil Conservation District. The project had also been advocated in the Army Corps of Engineers Chena River Watershed Study (1997).

Project Outcome and Benefits:

The project removed a gravel causeway constructed on Beaver Creek in the 1960's, opening 2 stream miles of historic spawning and rearing habitat for arctic grayling and salmon.

Partners:

Alaska Department of Natural Resources, City of North Pole, Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Williams Petroleum, the Santa Claus House, and USFWS-Northern Alaska Ecological Services.
