Project Description, Outcome and Benefits:

The Big Hole River, in southwest Montana, contains the last native population of the fluvial (river dwelling) Arctic grayling in the lower 48 states. The fluvial Arctic grayling are currently a candidate species for listing under the Endangered Species Act. This project installed irrigation diversion screening, preventing juvenile fish from being lost in hay fields or irrigation ditches and maintaining within a 20-mile stretch of riverine habitat.

Partners: Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, the Arctic Grayling Recovery Program, and USFWS - Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program.
