| Project Description: |
Good Hope
Dam is approximately 6 foot high and 300 ft in length. The dam
and impoundment no longer serve a functional purpose, are in an
advanced state of disrepair, and has no identifiable owner. It is
the first blockage to migratory fishes on Conodoguinet Creek. This
is a high profile project with numerous partners and objectives.
In addition to removal of the dam, the project will include a comprehensive
riparian restoration component and chemical, physical, and biological
monitoring of pre- and post-dam removal conditions. |

| Project Outcome: |
The dam was removed
in November 2001, opening 22 miles of riverine habitat. Considerable
habitat improvement work is also underway by the Conodoguinet
Creek Watershed Association |
| |
|
| Benefits: |
Additional spawning
and rearing habitat has been provided for shad, herring, alewife,
and other resident fish species. It also restored
a significant reach of free flowing river and its ecology, as well
as eliminating a serious public safety hazard. |
