| Project
Description: |
Grand Portage Creek, located on the Grand
Portage Indian Reservation, Minnesota, historically supported coaster
brook trout. However, a large, concrete box culvert has effectively
blocked fish passage since its construction in 1959. |
Project Outcome
and Benefits: |
Construction of a step pool fishway structure
has been completed that provides steelhead, and a newly established
population of coaster brook trout, to ascend the stream. Approximately
3.5 miles of spawning and nursery habitat was made accessible for
coasters and steelhead on Lake Superior's North Shore |
