Gravid Higgins Eye Mussels Collected from St. Croix River for Ongoing Propagation Project

On April 29, 2011, divers from the Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Park Service, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources collected 20 gravid Higgins eye mussels, which are federally endangered, and several gravid plain pocketbook mussels, which are unlisted, from the St. Croix River at Hudson Narrows, near Hudson, Wisconsin.

Nick Rowse, Twin Cities Field Office, Scott Yess, La Crosse Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office, and Nathan Eckert, Genoa National Fish Hatchery, worked with Bob and Colleen Whaley of the National Park Service, Dan Kelner of the Army Corps of Engineers, Mike Davis and Bernard Sietman of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, to accomplish this task.
