A delegation from southeast Asia visited the Chesapeake Bay Field Office to learn more about assessing and monitoring contaminants, regulatory activities of U.S. government agencies, food safety and health related issues. Biologists discussed a variety of contaminant topics including fish tissue contamination; PAHs, urban runoff and fish tumors; frog abnormalities; endocrine disruption in fish: lead contamination at National Wildlife Refuges and using frogs to monitor recovery: and Natural Resource Damage Assessment. In addition, the delegation also heard about watershed assessment, living shoreline projects, highway projects and mosquito control on National Wildlife Refuges.

The delegates included representatives from Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Council for Agriculture and Rural Development (Cambodia), National Agriculture and Forestry Institute and Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (Laos), Hill Area and Community Development Foundation and GLOBE Project (Thailand) and Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Cuu Long Rice Research Institute (Vietnam).

These visitors were invited to the United States under the auspices of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program. Their program was arranged by World Learning Visitor Exchange Program.
