On December 17, 2009, Scenic Rivers Land Trust (SRLT) and the Maryland Environmental Trust (MET) finalized a conservation easement on the privately-owned property, known as Hidden View, preventing future development on the property.

This action permanently protects, in its natural state, 61 acres of mature, contiguous forest, and preserves the property's ecological functions and natural features, which include regionally important bird habitat, a 450-year-old white oak tree, and stunning views of Bacon Ridge Branch and the South River.

Hidden View Farm forms part of a greater conservation initiative in the area known as the South River Greenway. The South River Greenway is the result of a partnership among local landowners, The Scenic Rivers Land Trust, The South River Federation, The Trust For Public Land, Biophilia Foundation, Anne Arundel County and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Chesapeake Bay Field Office.

The Greenway encompasses four watersheds that drain into the South River, and protects habitat for forest interior nesting migratory birds and provides a permanent forested buffer to benefit aquatic species in the South River and Chesapeake Bay

This accomplishment adds to the more than 1,500 acres that has been preserved in Anne Arundel County, demonstrating the important role private landowners play in preserving natural space.
