The first calf of the year was born sometime early in the morning of April 16, 2012. The cow and calf are doing fine and had already rejoined the herd within hours. The refuge is expecting approximately 20 calves to be born this year, with most of them being born within the next two months. Calving can occur as late in the year as September. Calving is always an exciting time for visitors at Neal Smith so we expect visitation to increase once word gets out. For more information, visit us online.
