Approximately 75 people gathered at the People's Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for the Kalamazoo Audubon Society monthly meeting. The topic for the evening was the Great Lakes Piping Plover and its fight for survival. Great Lakes Piping Plover Recovery Coordinator Vince Cavalieri presented on both the biology of the plovers and the recovery efforts of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service, Michigan DNR, University of Minnesota and many other partners to help protect the species and recover its population.

The enthusiastic audience had many questions, and many of the participants were interested in volunteering for future piping plover recovery efforts in Michigan.
