The Upper Columbia Fish and Wildlife Office (UCFWO) is the lead federal agency for recovery of the Selkirk Mountain Caribou in the United States, and is currently writing the Selkirk Mountain Caribou 5 Year Status Review, expected out in early 2009.

Critical Habitat for the Canada Lynx
The Service has proposed revising the amount of critical habitat designated under the Endangered Species Act for the federally threatened Canada lynx. In total, the Service is proposing to designate approximately 42,753 square miles of habitat, including approximately 2,000 square miles in portions of Chelan and Okanogan Counties, Washington, and 50 square miles in Boundary County, Idaho.

Wetland Restoration
Waterfowl Arrive at Safe Feeding Place
The first of thousands of migrating waterfowl of the spring have arrived at a newly clean feeding area in the Lower Coeur d' Alene Basin. Last summer about 300 acres of Coeur d’Alene River valley farmland near Medimont, ID, was converted to healthy wetland habitat. The area is now perpetually protected safe feeding habitat for both migratory and resident swans, ducks, geese, and other wetland bird species.
