| Wildlife and
Habitat: Though a critical wintering and roosting
area for a number of migratory waterfowl, the Savanna National
Wildlife Refuge is particularly important for ring-necked ducks,
green-winged teal, and blue-winged teal. Over 6,000 acres of
rice fields are managed on the site to provide feed for migrating
waterfowl, and the refuge’s bottomland hardwood forests
provide important habitat for a wide range of wildlife. |
|
Recreation Opportunities: The
Savanna National Wildlife Refuge offers a variety of outdoor activities
for the public. The refuge is open to hikers, cyclists, and birdwatchers,
and in the fall and winter hunting is available for deer, feral hogs,
squirrels, turkey, and waterfowl.
