Waterfowl Permit Instructions for South Bay Ponds

To obtain a waterfowl hunting permit for salt ponds AB1, A2E, AB2, A3N, A3W, A5, A7, and A8 (see maps) , beginning FIRST TUESDAY OF SEPTEMBER, you may do one of the following:

1) Download the Migratory Bird Hunt Application. This will be available to download August 31.

2) Go to the the Visitor Center at 2 Marshlands Rd in Fremont to pick up the Migratory Bird Hunt Application. You may fill out the forms while at the Visitor Center but no permits will be issued at that time. The Visitor Center is open Tuesday - Sunday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and closed on all federal holidays.

3) Go to the Environmental Education Center in Alviso on 1751 Grand Blvd (call 408-262-5513 to see if the building is open) pick up a Migratory Bird Hunt Application and follow the instructions.

We will no longer mail the applications to you.

To apply for a hunt permit for persons with disabilities, please write, or select "Hunter with Disability" under item #7 on the Migratory Bird Hunt Application. Once you have read, understood, and completed the Migratory Bird Hunt Application and agree to the Special Conditions pertaining to these ponds, you may do one of the following beginning September 1:

a)
  submit it in person to the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center at 2 Marshlands Road, Fremont
b)
  Mail it to 9500 Thornton Ave, Newark, CA 94560
c) Fax application to 510-792-5828

Boat stickers will no longer be issued. Per special conditions, boats may be brought in to the ponds and moor it on these salt ponds during the two weekends prior to the opening of the hunt season. Boats may be moored on these ponds for the duration of the hunt season, or taken in and out during the hunt days. All boats must be removed two weeks following the close of the hunt season, or risk forfeiture.

ALLOW FOR 7-10 BUSINESS DAYS FOR A REPLY. All Hunt Permits will be mailed.
Hunters are responsible for following all of the Special Conditions for the South Bay Ponds.
