Volunteer/Student Intern - Biological Aide

Assists with on-going refuge biological surveys (endangered fish, plant, et cetera), habitat restoration projects, and data entry, as well as assisting with public use programs and minor maintenance projects on an as needed basis.

Volunteer/Student Intern - Public Recreation Aide

Assists with on-going refuge recreation activities, answers visitors questions, refuge programs for school groups, refuge events such as National Wildlife Refuge Week, design of brochures and other interpretive material, minor maintenance projects, trail maintenance, brush trimming, etc.

Volunteer/Student Intern - Maintenance Aide

Assists with on-going refuge maintenance activities (carpentry, mowing, landscaping, painting, minor equipment maintenance and repair, boundary posting, habitat restoration, litter removal, etc.

Period of Employment

The refuge has multiple openings during the spring, summer, fall, and winter. Length of employment is flexible, in order to meet the needs of the volunteer/student intern and the refuge. Typically, most volunteers/student interns work for twelve weeks, although shorter and longer term assignments are available.

Conditions

A trailer/RV pad with hookups is available for use by volunteers/student interns. A small stipend ($10 per 8 hour working day) to cover groceries will be reimbursed to resident volunteers/interns. Volunteers/interns will work at least 32 hours per two week pay period, not to exceed 78 hours per two week pay period. Equipment and transportation are provided for all work. On the job accident insurance is provided through worker's compensation. Nevada weather is hot and dry for most of the year, but can be cold for short periods during the winter. It is quite windy throughout most of the year.
