Refuge Helpers Litter
Control
Litter's not for Critters,
so the refuge invites wildlife-lovers to join this new program.
Modeled
after the well-known Adopt-a-Highway programs, participants adopt
a particular section of the refuge and commit to keeping it clear
of litter.
Groups, families, and
inviduals interested in participating should be willing to commit
to:
- Adopting a stretch
of the refuge for at least two years.
- Picking up trash at
least every other month between August and June when the area
is open to public access. That's two to five times per year, depending
on which area is adopted.
The refuge commits to
- Erecting an Adopt-a-Refuge
sign displaying the group name at the adopted area.
- Providing safety guidelines,
safety vests, flags, and trash bags.
- Removing filled trash
bags the first workday following a pickup, whenever possible.
