Abstract:

This data set depicts public roads and related features such as parking lots that are located on National Wildlife Refuges and National Fish Hatcheries. Coverage is nationwide: this particular part of the set covers the southwest region. The primary source for this data is a survey conducted by the Federal Highway Administration during the years 2000 and 2001, using GPS units.

Purpose:

The intended application of the data is a baseline inventory of publicly used roads and related facilities in the National Wildlife Refuge System. The Federal Highway Administration will fund maintenance on many of these facilities, but an inventory is required as part of that funding.
