Abstract:

National Wildlife Refuges are federal lands managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). The primary source for boundary information is the USFWS Realty program (status maps, legal surveys) and county records (deeds and legal surveys).

Purpose:

The intended application of the data is to serve as a spatial reference of refuge boundaries for other data layers in GIS and mapping applications. It is specifically not intended to be used as a land survey or representation of land for conveyance or tax purposes.

Supplemental_Information:

Data are available both in the UTM projection described herein, and in geographic coordinates.

Refuge data were developed with ESRI's ArcInfo version 7.2.1 Patch 2 software on a PC running WINDOWS NT version 4.0 (Build 1381: Service Pack 6) operating system.

Software capabilities were used to ensure arcs have no dangling nodes and intersection errors and to check polygons for label errors.

The appropriate lines were taken from HAPET's easement-tract coverage and added to a copy of the line work of HAPET's fee-title coverage to produce this Ownership Boundary coverage for La Creek National Wildlife Refuge. HAPET research to establish the exterior-fee-title boundary location was relied upon to create the exterior-fee-title portion of this coverage.

Using ArcEdit, the appropriate lines were taken from HAPET's easement-tract coverage and added to a copy of the line work from HAPET's Fee-Title coverage to produce the Ownership Boundary for La Creek National Wildlife Refuge. A DRG (a mosaic composed of individual U.S.G.S. 7.5 minute topographical quadrangles) was used as a background image for spatial reference only. Polygon items were added that are specified for an "Ownership Status" coverage in SOP NUMBER: "97-01 United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Lands Boundary Data". NOTE regarding the following flowage easement tracts: tract 63F should be included in this coverage, but the information to locate the tract was inconclusive; tract 65F should probably be included in this coverage, but the information to locate this tract was not found.
