The National Wildlife Refuge boundary information found on this site may not be current. Please check the metadata files associated with these layers to identify the date the information was processed. The FWS Division of Realty is currently working on a dataset of the entire National Wildlife Refuge System with up-to-date boundary information. Please be patient while this information is compiled. It should be posted September 2009. If you need further information please contact Doug Vandegraft, Chief Cartographer at Doug_Vandegraft@fws.gov.
Overview:
The ZIP data files consist of Approved Acquisition Boundary Layers in a compressed E00 and a compressed shapefile. There are also metadata files (a detail description) of each data layer. These metadata files have a .html extension. They can be opened with any browser. The E00 files are all georeferenced in UTM zones 12, 13 and 14, some have a DATUM of NAD 27 and others NAD 83. Some zipped E00 files also include a Decimal Degree, NAD 83 version. The shapefiles are in Decimal Degrees, with a DATUM of NAD 83.
Metadata is available below in *.html files.
