Abstract:

This geo-dataset represents the land ownership status boundary of the Pilot Knob National Wildlife Refuge through the ending date given in the Time Period of Content.

Purpose:

The intended application of this data is to serve as a spatial reference of refuge boundaries for other data layers in GIS and mapping as a 24,000 scale, resource grade application. It is specifically not intended to be used as a land survey or representation of land for conveyance or tax purposes.

Process_Description:

The entirety of this layer was developed on-screen using "heads-up" digitizing in Arcview 3.1. Each feature was visually inputted by comparison with the paper map and legal description notation from the refuge and the use of a USGS digital raster graphics (DRG) mosaic as a controlled base. Standard operating procedures were followed by using the zoom function to magnify basemaps to a maximum 1/5000 while digitizing. Once the section was topologically correct, it was attributed and saved as a Shapefile. This process was performed by the University of Minnesota in cooperation with the USFWS.
