Abstract:
This geo-dataset represents the legislatively approved boundary of the Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge through the ending date given in the Time Period of Content. The legislative boundary is defined in U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Standard Operating Procedure 97-01 as "The extent of actual and potential federal ownership within an area delineated in a Final Environmental Assessment document, or, in those cases where an area of potential acquisition has not been delineated, the extent of actual federal ownership, established management agreements or easements."
Purpose:
The intended application of this data is to serve as a spatial reference of refuge boundaries for resource grade applications. It is specifically not intended to be used as a land survey or representation of land for conveyance or tax purposes.

This digital file was created by digitizing the refuge original hard copy Realty map in ArcInfo 7.1. The original map was registered and digitized on a digitizing tablet. The resulting digital file was transformed from table units to UTM coordinates. The boundary was then overlayed on the DRG in ArcView 3.1 to confirm that the lines were accurately located. The zoom scale for checking if the digitized boundaries match the refuge boundaries on the USGS DRG was 1/5000. Boundaries that fell in the water were not compared to the DRG, given that there were no features to compare to. The files were then reprojected to NAD83. This process was performed by the University of Minnesota as a cooperator with the USFWS.
