Gulf of Maine Coastal Ecosystems Program - GIS Applications
GPS & Landsat data are being used in many of the applications at the Gulf of Maine
Project
- Landsat data is used for habitat identification on a watershed-wide and smaller basis.
It has been and is being used for a Casco Bay Habitat Analysis and for watershed habitat
analysis in several Atlantic Salmon Rivers of Maine (more details below).
- The PLGGR (GPS unit) has been and is being used:
- in conjunction with Landsat imagery for supervised classifications of habitat.
- for geo-referencing and mapping in-stream Atlantic Salmon habitat and obstructions.
- for mapping habitat for wetland restorations
- marine navigation (it was extremely helpful in returning to the dock ~ 15 or so miles ~
from an outer island of Casco Bay after a thick fog rolled in on us)
