Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) Program

Creston completes 3rd successful year

In June 2012, Creston National Fish Hatchery started the 3rd summer of the NW MT YCC Progam. The 2012 funding for the program was provided by the WO Fisheries and Habitat Conservation Division and was in cooperation with the Salish Kootenai College and the Confederated Salish Kootenai Tribes.

Recruitment and staffing assistance was provided by Salish Kootenai College (SKC) and the CSKT Natural Resources Department scheduled work projects on the Flathead Reservation. This collaborative Service and CSKT YCC program provided employment and workplace training for three SKC student crew leaders and twelve YCC students ages 15-18.

This year the YCC students participated in the development and building of the Nature Explore Classroom which transformed an outdoor space into a multiple use area for educational and family engagement activities.
