Kansas River Cleanup

Date Posted: November 1, 2005

Environmental Contaminants Staff of the Service's Kansas Field Office (KFO) assisted staff at the Fort Riley Army Base with the removal of approximately 2.5 tons of non-hazardous trash and debris from 7 miles of the Kansas River. This project was organized by members of the 648th Area Support Group and other military and civilian groups at Fort Riley, received volunteer assistance from three NGOs, and was partially funded by a grant from the National Environmental Education and Learning Foundation. The KFO provided an airboat and operator to locate trash and debris in and along the river, and haul debris collected by the volunteers to pick-up points for proper disposal.
