A great and rewarding way to enjoy and support the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge is by volunteering. Hundreds of hours are donated each year by dedicated volunteers who are the backbone for many refuge projects and programs. There are opportunities to utilize a variety of talents and expertise within programs such as environmental education, resource management, and maintenance. Refuge housing, trailer hookups, and vehicles may be available for qualified volunteers. Contact the Refuge Office and find out more about volunteering.

Othello Sandhill Crane Festival

The Othello Sandhill Crane Festival is an annual festival held each March focusing on wildlife observation, especially sandhill cranes. This event includes many birding tours, knowledgeable presenters, children's crafts, and other wildlife-related activities. International Migratory Bird Day

International Migratory Bird Day celebrates the incredible journey of migratory birds. On the second Saturday in May, public events are held internationally that promote awareness and conservation of migratory birds. National Wildlife Refuge Week

Each autumn the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service devotes a week to celebrating our National Wildlife Refuge System. During this week, the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge hosts a sunset wildlife tour. This bus tour provides a great opportunity to enjoy and learn about one refuge in the National Wildlife Refuge System.
