Environment Canada, in cooperation with other organizations, developed the CITES Identification Guide – Tropical Woods to assist inspection officers in the field to identify shipments of wood at international borders.

Vernacular Names

In a series of decisions, the Parties to CITES agreed to provide timber importers and others with a list of vernacular or common names for traded timber that correlate to their scientific names. In the United States, this information is provided by APHIS.
