Protect our wetlands
Protecting our remaining wetlands is an essential step
in holding the line for environmental quality. Identification of sensitive
wetland areas must be done on a regional and local basis before development
encroaches. Priority sites for protection through land acquisition and
stronger regulation can then be effectively determined. Existing regulations
at the federal and state level often are not comprehensive enough to adequately
protect wetlands, especially nontidal wetlands.
Now is the time to protect our remaining wetland resources.
Further wetland destruction or degradation can ruin the fragile Chesapeake
Bay ecosystem, and eliminate a way of life that Bay area residents now
