The 8,075-acre Washita National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1961 to provide a resting and feeding area for migrating and wintering waterfowl.
Refuge Closures

The entire refuge is closed to all entry during the following controlled hunts:

  • Youth Deer Hunts: October 6-7, 2023; November 3-4, 2023.
  • General Deer Hunt: November 7-8, 2023.
  • Youth Turkey Hunt: April 12-14, 2024.

      Washita National Wildlife Refuge is a wintering home for waterfowl and sandhill cranes. The refuge also provides a year-round home for resident wildlife species, and a nesting ground for migratory songbirds.
